The artist replicated this biblical figure many times (a version in bronze is on display in the same room). The first example in bronze was displayed in 1889 at the Circle of the Artists of Turin and acquired by King Umberto I). The model who posed for this statue was Tina (“Caterinuccia”) , a young model at the Albertina Academy of Turin, with whom Canonica had a long relationship.

The hall
The Room of the fireplace is so called because of its monumental fireplace in volcanic stone, created in 1581, which comes from Vetralla (in the region around Viterbo where the artist had a villa).
