The Museum and Home of Pietro Canonica: Memories and Momentos of an International artist
Guided tour as part of European Heritage Days 2014.
The tour will highlight Pietro Cannonica’s work as artist to the courts and governments of Europe, through objects and photos preserved in his home. A thorough examination of his reputation as sculptor, painter and musician at a European level, will lead to an analysis of the important moments of his life and his artistic production, which coincides with events in the world of art and politics at the end of the 19th and early 20th century.
Gifted with an absolute mastery of technique and great skill and speed in working with the materials, Canonica made a name for himself among the aristocracy in Italy and abroad, where he was commissioned to produce portraits and celebratory monuments executed with rare expertise. At the end of the First World War, he created monuments in memory of the war dead for many of the new States born out of the ashes of the great empires, and later in the 30’s he had studios and workshops in Turin, Venice and Paris.
